    Subject Areas for Exploratory Enrichment
    From the New York State Standards

    • Career Development:
      Programs in career development should aim to explore career options, relate academic knowledge to workforce skills or directly teach a technical or non-technical skill that will aid in applications toward employment, career advancement and success in post-secondary programs.

    • Character Education – Curriculum Components:
      Programs in character education should aim to instill civic values, promote social values and interaction, teach citizenship, answer ethical questions, or help in the understanding of diverse cultural and moral perspectives.

    • Health:
      Programs in health should aim to educate students on the personal and environmental factors that affect their well-being as well as help establish routines to maintain physical fitness and a safe and healthy environment.

    • Languages Other Than English (LOTE):
      Programs in LOTE should aim to develop cross-cultural and communication skills, verbal and nonverbal, in languages other than English.

    • Math:
      Programs in math should seek to improve mathematical analysis, critical thinking and problem solving, and convey the thought process of computation, algebra, geometry, measurement, statistics and probability. Programs will aim to apply the knowledge and thinking skills of mathematics, science, and technology to address real-life problems and informed decision making.

    • Science:
      Programs in science should aim to reinforce the value of the scientific method as well as inform students on the historical value of advances in the field of science. Programs will aim to apply the knowledge and thinking skills of mathematics, science, and technology to address real-life problems and informed decision making.

    • Social Studies:
      Programs in social studies should aim to teach New York State, United States and global history through a variety of perspectives. These programs can also educate on how geography, demographics, and availability of resources have affected societies and economies. Programs can also teach civics, citizenship, government and the roles of laws and constitutions in the maintenance of democracy.

    • Technology:
      Programs in technology should aim to help in the engineering and design of technologies using tools commonly used in the field. Programs should aim to show how technologies are developed in order to directly meet the needs of a society. Programs will aim to apply the knowledge and thinking skills of mathematics, science, and technology to address real-life problems and informed decision making.
